The safety
Belgrade fortress and Kalemegdan Park area is completely safe for walking and enjoying during 24 hours, thanks to the security service , hired by Secretariat for Culture. The area of the Fortress is constantly under police control, situated in the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of Belgrade. In the summer time, there is also a police cavalry patrol, as one of the ways to increase the safety level and as a very special attraction.
The entrance
Belgrade Fortress area can be entered from both Kalemegdan Park and the Lower Town . The visitors enter the park by big sand paths from Knez Mihailo Street and Uzun Mirko Street, though there are a number of smaller transversal streets used as an entrance to the site. From the Lower Town you can enter the Fortress through Vidin Gate and the Nebojsa Tower.
Traffic
The traffic in Belgrade Fortress and Kalemegdan Park zone is forbidden, except for delivery, public service and contractors vehicles, only in the period between 6 and 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. and 1 a.m.
Information centres
The visitors can get all required information about Belgrade Fortress and Kalemegdan Park as well as about manifestations, events and activities, at two information centres: The facility located at the entrance from Uzun Mirko Street, by the traffic control ramp The Belgrade Fortress Gallery, sidewards from the Sahat Gate (the Clock Gate).
Information boards
All information boards are placed to help the visitors orientate easily around Belgrade Fortress and Kalemegdan Park. This is where visitors can also find short historical data about near-by places.
Parking lots
The car parking lot is situated at the Leopold Gate (the road leading to the Zoo entrance), while the tourist buses can be parked at the Vidin Gate parking lot, 66 Vojvoda Bojevic Boulevard.
Lavatories
Public lavatories are placed in the Large Kalemegdan Park, next to the children playground, and at the Upper Town, nearby the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of Belgrade.
Fountains
There is a big fountain in Kalemegdan Park, next to the children playground, and a smaller one is in Little Kalemegdan, close to the amusement park. Mehmed Pasha Sokolovic fountain is in the Upper Town, and there is one more in the Lower Town at Carlo VI Gate.
The Japanese fountain was built in September 2010, at Sava Promenade, near Tomb of National Heroes.
Ecological vehicle
The ecological vehicle serves the needs of the site users, but can also be used by the third party under the certain terms, for realization of their programmes at the Fortress. The ecological vehicle has a set route.
