Blog

“Cities and Squares of the Mediterranean”, an exhibition created by the Faculty of Architecture, is the first exhibition that visitors will be able to see in the multifunctional hall of Nebojša Tower at the Lower Town of the Belgrade Fortress.

Opening of the exhibition will be on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 6pm. During the event, visitors will be presented the book “Cities and the Squares of the Mediterranean”, containing students’ architectural designs and their vision for protection and development of the Mediterranean, designs for walkways and squares of coastal towns, as well as the squares on the water. The authors of the book are Prof. Dr. Vladan Đokić and Milica Milojević, an assistant, while M.Arch. Branko Pavić and Milica Milojević made a concept for the exhibition.

Thirty designs of three generations of master students of the Faculty of Architecture, in the period between 2007 and 2009, will be displayed at the multifunctional hall at the Lower Town of the Belgrade Fortress. Students, self-inspired in their research, created the topic and directions for the intervention at the given location. As part of the project, students organized workshops and stay at the sites that are the subject of their work – Skadar Lake, Budva and Kotor Bay. Being together on locations, in a specific atmosphere and minimally-directed activities, allowed the students to gain both individual and team experience of the atmosphere, which was later transferred and fostered through the work in the studio.

The exhibition will be opened until June 25, 2011. The exhibition was realized by PE “Belgrade Fortress” and the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade.

This exhibition is also the first one to be presented in the still unfinished multifunctional hall of the Nebojša Tower at the Lower Town. Next phase of the project anticipates finalization of works on the multifunctional hall, designed as a space for different cultural events, i.e. exhibitions, plays, performances, concerts, fashion shows, book promotions, discussion panels, and scientific debates.
