Exhibition of works from the International architectural competition for construction of the Centre for Promotion of Science
Sava promenade, Kalemegdan
May 12 – June 5, 2011
The exhibition presented 232 designs, and the first-prize winner, architect Wolfgang Tschapeller from Vienna, attended the opening as well. According to the jury of the competition, the winning project, a design of Austrian architectural company, is a surprising and intelligent re-interpretation of the principles of modern architecture. It connects sixty years of New Belgrade history and the possibilities of the future architecture. Although it seems very radical, the structure, which supports the facility, is simple and well designed.
“The building of the Centre for Promotion of Science will be opened for all citizens. This will be an interactive way for presenting scientific issues – permanent and temporary settings in specially equipped premises for exhibitions, scientific workshops, laboratories and auditoriums, the planetarium, science garden, lectures, debates, experiments and demonstrations for visitors of all ages, especially for the youngest. There will be a room for scientific conferences and seminars, as well as the connection with the Nano center, which is being simultaneously built. We believe that the unusual architecture of the building of the Centre for Promotion of Science and the location itself, Block 39 in New Belgrade together with the Campus of Arts and Sciences, will attract attention. The very fact that this type of facilities is new in the region is what makes our Center the first institution of that kind in the Western Balkans.” Drecun Aleksandar, director of the Center for Promotion of Science
