Blog

Mileta Prodanović presented his book of essays “Older and nicer Belgrade” on Friday, March 2nd 2012 at 7pm at the Nebojša Tower as part of the project “Tales of Belgrade”.

In this unique book published by “Stubovi kulture”, the author commentson traces of deterioration of Belgrade that he has collected, on what happened in the core of the city but also in its spirit in the last decade of the twentieth century – the urban downfall in the shadow of the war, illegal building construction, newspaper stands, election material and millennium bugs. Mileta Prodanovićdepicts Belgrade in the 90s, through an insightful analysis of phenomena that changed Belgrade, from architecture to urbanism, bill design to political misuse of icons and tradition.

The title of the book is an ironical paraphrase of the well-known message said in the late 1991: “If needed, we’ll make more beautiful and older Dubrovnik!” The author of this quote is Božidar Vučurević, the war chief of Trebinje, poet and ex truck driver. Ivan Radosavljević will also speak about the book at the promotion.

PE”Belgrade Fortress” has started a project “Tales of Belgrade” in order to promote cultural heritage of Belgrade and the Danube countries, and to improve cooperation in the field of culture and revitalization of cultural heritage through contemporary art.

The project “Tales of Belgrade” promotes literary works of local artists through conversation with writers and experts from different fields of culture. The goal of this project is to create a new content in the revitalized space of the Nebojša Tower and to promote Belgrade together with its rivers. Belgrade Fortress, which has been the historical and urban core for over two millennia, is the perfect place to start “Tales of Belgrade”.
