Belgrade, August 28th 2013 – The third ” Festival Culture Danube – Dunavfest 2013″ under the slogan “Voices of the Past – Images of the Future” will be held from August 31st until September 8th 2013 organized by PE “Belgrade Fortress” and with the support of the French Cultural Centre, the Belgrade Drama Theatre, Belgrade Cultural Centre and Creative Serbia.
Within this year`s “Dunavfest” the second Festival of European Student Animation – FESA 2013 themed “Christianity/Wisdom” will be held from August 31st until September 1st 2013 at The Big Gunpowder Warehouse. Seventy one student animated films arrived from 12 schools from 12 European countries (Hungary, Austria, Slovakia, Germany, Greece, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Macedonia, France and Serbia). The Selection Committee composed of Predrag Milošević, Vuk Maksimović and Iva Ćirić, chose 28 films for two competitive programs. The international Jury composed of: Georges Sifianos, professor of animation at ENSAD -École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, Thomas Renoldner, professor of animation at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts and Rastko Ćirić professor of illustration and animation at the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade will award rewards for the best Student Film and a Festival reward for best technique. An international jury will award 5 special diplomas for each category.
On Monday September 2nd 2013 at 20:00, festival visitors will see a stage performance of text by Michael Critobulus “The siege and fall of Constantinople in 1453” translated from the Byzantine Greek by Dejan Acović. Text adaptation was done by Goran Marković and staging by Nebojša Bradić. The text will be read by an actor Tihomir Stanić and singing will be performed by the Serbian Orthodox Chanters.
Michael Critobulus known as Critobulus of Imbros was a 15th century historian, the Byzantine and Ottoman governor of the Aegean island of Imbros. He wrote a Greek history composed of five books in which he described the period from 1451 until 1467. The only surviving manuscript of his history, autograph, was found in the library of the Sultan`s Topkapi Palace in Istanbul in 1859. A part of history dedicated to the siege and fall of Constantinople in 1453 has been translated from the Byzantine Greek to Serbian by Dejan Acović. The article was published in the journal “Bridges”.
On the occasion of two hundred years since the birth of Petar II Petrović Njegoš, on Wednesday September 4th 2013 at 20:00, writer Matija Bećković will talk about the poetic work of Njegoš and present the work “A service to the Hermit of Cetinje”. The author will read parts of sermons, essays and poems dedicated to Njegoš, written on various occasions over the past four decades.
Within the music program a concert “Demons” performed by soprano Katarina Jovanović and pianist Dejan Sinadinović will be held on September 8th 2013 at 21:00 at Nebojša Tower. Solo songs by Wagner, Debussy and Britten will be performed within the program.
