On Monday April 16th, Tuesday April 17th, Thursday April 19th and Friday April 20th 2012 at 7 pm at Nebojša Tower, PE “Belgrade Fortress” continued the realization of the project “Stories of Belgrade” within which the Creative Centre Publishing House to present the book in his series “This is living”.
On Monday April 16th we will discuss book “Vinča” by Nenad Tasić and “Singidunum” by Stefan Pop-Lazić.
Literary work “Vinča” by Nenad Tasić describes how and in what way did the people without arms used to live for two thousand years and how did the Neolithic Balkan used to look.
The book “Singidunum”, a work by Stefan Pop-Lazić, reveals how did the inhabitants of Singidunum settlement and military camp used to live, as well as the details on the rules of construction of camps, such as the allowed number of inhabitants per one camp, who was dictating fashion trends and which jewellery was valued at the time.
On Tuesday, April 17th three authors shall present their work within an edition “How we used to live”
• Marko Popović, his two books “The defence and warfare” and “Royal and noble courts in the Middle Ages. The book “The defence and warfare” talks about the way of waging a war in the Middle Ages, while the book “Royal and noble courts in the Middle Ages” brings lives of rulers and their wives in a medieval courts closer to readers.
• Vesna Bikić with the book “Medieval Village” which talks about rural life in the Middle Ages, and
• Radivoj Radić with his book “Old Slavs” tells a tale about the life of Slavs after their settlement in the Balkan region.
On Thursday, April 19th we will talk about books “In the Ottoman Empire” by Aleksandar Fotić and “Belgrade in the Time of Prince Miloš“ by Ana Stolić.
In his book “In the Ottoman Empire” Alexander Fotić describes the life during Ottoman rule, a manner of dining at the dinner table, the look of oriental houses, conversion of the Christians to Mohamedanism and converts to Islam and the restoration of the Serbian church, the of the first firearm and the meaning of certain words in Turkish.
The book “Belgrade in the Time of Prince Miloš” by Ana Stolić takes readers on a journey through Belgrade after the Second Serbian Uprising. The author reveals what dishes could be found at Prince Miloš Obrenović’s dinner table, in whose houses did European furniture appeared first, what were the duties of the police, what was the cure for cholera and which buildings were erected during this period.
On Friday, April 20th as part of an edition “How we used to live” Radina Vučetić will present herself with her works “The capital of an independent Serbia (1878-1918)”, “Belgrade between the two wars (1918-1941)” and “Life in socialism (1945 – 1980)”.
• “The capital of an independent Serbia (1878-1918)” depicts the life of residents of Belgrade at the turn of two centuries, when did the first car, tram and football appear, interior design style and fashion trends of those times and describes places where young men and women used to meet and the way they were having fun.
• In “Belgrade between the two wars (1918-1941)” Radina Vučetić writes about the leading Serbian industrialists, famous artists who visited Belgrade, the first radio broadcast and knowledge of residents of Belgrade on television.
• “Life in socialism (1945-1980)” talks about how student demonstrations of 1968 ended and what was built by youth work activities , as well as how was the birthday of Josip Broz Tito celebrated, when did Fiat750 became a national car and when did women get the right to vote.
Edition “How we used to live” talks about everyday life of people in the past, from prehistoric times to the present day. This is a major undertaking – the edition was conceived several years ago and will have 20 books and brings together a large number of experts in different historical periods – historians, archaeologists, art historians. The edition “How we used to live” will be of significant supplemental content to schools and their students in learning elective course everyday life of the past. The jury of the 53rd Belgrade International Book Fair has declared this edition published by the Creative Centre for the best children`s book of the year 2008.
With the project “Tales of Belgrade” PE “Belgrade Fortress” continues to promote the literary works of local authors through interviews with writers and experts in various fields of culture with the aim of establishing new content in the revitalized space of Nebojša Tower and promoting cultural and artistic spirit of Belgrade.
