“Tales of Belgrade” were held for the fourth time on Thursday, 22nd of March 2012 at 7 pm at the Nebojša Tower.

Vladislav Bajac will present his novel “Druid from Sindidun” and talk about obscure and not so well-known layers of Belgrade and European history – a Celtic Belgrade. Gojko Božović, a chief editor of the publishing house “Arhipelag” will also be the speaker.

Known as the writer of the “Hamam Balcania”, a novel with captivating images of contemporary Belgrade as well as the ones from the period of Ottoman Empire, Bajac is now establishing distinctive and powerful reconstruction of the long gone historical times, showing us the traces of those times in our modernity in his new novel “Druid from Sindidun”.

“Druid from Sindidun” is an enchanting and exciting, thoughtful and wise story about the great druid of Sind. At the same time, this is a beautiful story about friendship between Alexander the Great and aCeltic druid, Yoan Breklien.

In this novel, history meets philosophy revealing great historical figures, defeatedwarriors, temporary winners, historical periods and long oblivion, friends and enemies, MacedoniansandScordiscs, Asia and Europe, Sindidun and Belgrade.

For this novel “Druid from Sindidun”, Bajac has won the “Branko Ćopić“and the “Golden Bestesller“awards, as well as the „6th of April“ award for the best novel about Belgrade.

The novel „Druid from Sindidun” has been translated to Greek, Bulgarian and Macedonian languages.

Vladislav Bajac (Belgrade, 1954), novelist, story teller, poet.
He studied Yugoslavian and World Literature at the Faculty of Philology. Alongside his writing career, he was also engaged in journalism, literary translating and publishing. His translating work includes more dozens of literary texts, as well as a few anthologies and books, among others: „Poets of Beat Generation“ (1979), „Trip – Guide through the American Contemporary Poetry“ (featuring Vladimir Kopicl, 1983), „Zen Stories“ (1980), „The Energy of Slaves“ by Leonard Cohen (1981) and „Chan Stories“ (1982).
Together with Bora Đoković, Bajac compiled the anthology „The Latest Belgrade Story“(1981). Books of poetry: „What is the Road that Leads to the Men“(1972) and „The Way of Haiku“(1988).
He has also won awards for his haiku poetry at theThe International Itoen Haiku Poetry Contest, Tokyo, Japan in 1991 and 1993.
Books of stories: „Europe on the Back of the Bull“(1988), „Dream Pads“and „Geopoethic Fables“(1992, 1995, „Stefan Pešić“award for the best prose book).
Novels: „The Book about Bamboo“ (1989), „Black Box“, „Utopiaon the LatterReality” (1993; an award and a stipend of the “Borislav Pekić Foundation” for the project), “Druid from Sindun” („6th of April “ award for the best novel about Belgrade; Serbian Academy of Science and Arts “Branko Ćopić`s Foundation” award for the best book of the year; “Golden Bestseller Award”), “Runaway from Biography”, “Life within Eight Names” (2001, “Hit Libris Award”), “Europe Express”, “Story Book” (2003, International “Golden Ring Award” for the creative range, Skoplje, Macedonia), “Hamam Balcania” (2008; International Literary Award “Balkanika” for the best published book written on one of the Balkan languages in 2007 and 2008; “Golden Hit Libris RTS Award” and the “Hit Libris” award for one of the10 bestselling books in Serbia in 2008; “Isidora Sekulić- Book of the Year” award; “Kočić`s Book” award).
Selected works of Vladislav Bajac were published in seven volumes from 2000 to 2003. His poetry and prose have been translated to as many as ten foreign languages. Some of his books have been published in France, Germany, Slovenia, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Russia, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Greece and Italy. Several theater plays have been played based on his texts in the theaters abroad. He is a founder and a manager of the publishing house “Geopoetika”. He is also a member of Serbian PEN.
