Premiere of the play “Last Voyage”, written by Nebojša Bradić, opened the first Dunavfest on Wednesday, August 31. The festival will be held at the Belgrade Fortress till September 11. “Last Voyage” started at the Stara Kapetanija in Zemun, continued on a ship that disembarked at the Nebojša Tower, where the last act of this unique play was staged. Performed by the Belgrade Drama Theatre, the play is both musical and theatrical spectacle, and was inspired by the story “Delivery (Rigais Ferrais),” written by the Nobel laureate Ivo Andrić. The story is about the last days of a life of the Greek revolutionary Rigais Ferrais who was killed in the Nebojša Tower.
Dunavfest is organized by the PE `Belgrade Fortress`, supported by the Serbian Ministry of Culture and in cooperation with numerous cultural institutions that took part in the event. The festival is part of the initiative of Serbia for the Danube strategy, which will promote the Danube as a common cultural heritage and a fertile basis for the promotion of cooperation and creativity. The rich cultural heritage of the Belgrade Fortress, successfully completed reconstruction of the Nebojša Tower and the natural environment of the Danube represent a great potential for the development of this festival.
The first edition of this event will offer the premiere events that will differentiate the Dunavfest from the other festivals of this type. The festival premieres will tell several music and theatre stories: from the Serbian-Greek history (“Last Voyage”), about the Danube (“Istar”), the Isle (Karamazov and Katarina Jovanović); about the underworld, the foreigners in Belgrade, Felix Kanitz, etc. Gunpowder Magazine is the space reserved for free concerts (Kalman Baloh, Mats Gustafson and Boris Kovač) and multimedia exhibition “Ale i Bauci” by Rastko Ćirić. Visitors will have a chance to see the exhibition “The Foreigners in Belgrade” and “Through the Serbian Danube Region with Felix Kanitz” at the promenade at the Beton Hall.
Following program will be held at Ada Huja, where over two days, visitors can taste wines from the Danube region, taste Hungarian specialties, and also discover the Celtic Belgrade through the exhibition organized by the PE `Belgrade Fortress` realized in cooperation with the Museum of the City of Belgrade, supported by the Municipality of Palilula.
