Belgrade, December 4th 2013 – At the end of the year which celebrates Constantine`s reform that allowed the free exercise of Christianity, Public Enterprise “Belgrade Fortress” realized four exhibitions from the Collection of graphics (woodcarvings and copper engravings) of Serbian Orthodox Church.

The first in the series was an exhibition of the first Serbian copper engraver Hristofor Žefarović (c.1700-1753) which visitors could see at the Belgrade Fortress Gallery in Inner Stambol gate until December 5th.

The exhibition shows nine authentic copper-plate engravings made during the first half of the eighteenth century.

The Museum of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Belgrade keeps a valuable Collection of graphics (woodcarvings and copper engravings). These graphic clichés, copper-plate engravings once belonged to Serbian monasteries, mostly Monasteries of Fruška Gora. Within this collection a special unit consists of copper engravings of Hristofor Žefirovića and Zaharija Orfelin. Prints of wood carved clichés were made in 1998 on the occasion of 800 years since the founding of the Hilandar Monastery. Sheets from copper engravings of Hristofor Žefirovića were printed in 1999.
